JLG Architects is an architectural firm specializing in urban design, master planning and architectural design for sports/recreational facilities, universities, K-12 schools, flight facilities, medical centers, and various usage/multi- family housing. JLG has offices in Minneapolis and Alexandria, Minnesota, and Grand Forks, Bismarck, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, and Fargo, North Dakota, and Brookings.

JLG Architects was founded in 1989 by Gary Johnson , FAIA and Lonnie Laffen , AIA, LEED AP under the name Johnson & amp; Laffen Architects, Ltd. In 1994, the company received an International AIA Development Company's Extraordinary Program Award. In 2000, James Galloway, AIA, LEED AP joined the company, changing its name to Johnson Laffen Galloway Architects, Ltd. The Minneapolis corporate office opened in 2002, led by Michelle Mongeon Allen, AIA, LEED AP. The company name was changed to JLG Architects in the same year. In 2004, Dan Miller, AIA, LEED AP opened an office in Alexandria, and in 2005, Joel Davy, AIA, LEED AP opened an office in Fargo. The Bismarck office opened in 2010 and Williston's office opens in December 2012. In 2012, Minot-based Davisand Larson Associates joins JLG. JLG has won more North Dakota AIA awards than any other company in North Dakota. JLG is also part of the 1% pro bono public architecture design program and donates a large number of design services to nonprofit organizations.

In 2006 JLG was named one of "20 Architecture/Interior Design/Architecture Landscape leading companies to work in America." JLG has won over 70 design awards between 1989 and 2012. In 2005, JLG won the AIA North Dakota Unbuilt design award.
In 2006, JLG won two AIA North Dakota Merit awards and AIA North Dakota Honor awards.
In 2007, JLG won the AIA North Dakota Best of Show, two AIA North Dakota Honor awards, AIA North Dakota Honor for Rehabilitation and AIA North Dakota Unbuilt award.
In 2008, JLG won four AIA North Dakota Awards of Merit, AIA Unbuilt design award.
In May 2008, JLG Architects and Mohr Construction Company received the award from St. Paul, MN, Heritage Conservation Commission and AIA St. Paul for the restoration and renovation of Cass Gilbert's Lightner Double House.
In September 2009, JLG Architects received the 2009 Design Award for Design and Construction of Grand Forks Flight Support Facility at Grand Forks International Airport in the US.
In October 2010, JLG Architects received two AIA North Dakota of Merit Awards for Chateau de Mores and Bonanzaville Museum.
In October 2010, the JLG Architect was named to the ZweigWhite Hot 100 List.
In November 2010, partner company Lonnie Laffen was elected to the North Dakota Senate for District 43 in Grand Forks, ND.
In October 2011, JLG Architects received the 2011 North Dakota AIA Jury Award for Expansion of the Alerus Conference Center, and the 2011 AI North Dakota AIA Awards for JLG Fargo Office Rejuvenation.
In January 2012, JLG is featured in the book "50 US Architects: Residential and Planning."

Sustainable Design
In the May 2007 issue of Construction Environmental Design magazine, JLG "officially started a sustainable living, working and sustainable play program with a series of eco-friendly events honoring Earth Week." Many JLG projects have achieved LEED certification. Among them are; the Gorecki Alumni Center at the University of North Dakota who acquired LEED platinum certification and Black Gold Headquarters who achieved LEED gold certification.
