Tracking number is the number assigned to the packet when it was sent. Tracking numbers are useful for knowing where to send time sensitive. In the United States, some companies and organizations that use tracking numbers are UPS, FedEx, and the United States Postal Service. Most Postal Services use the international S10 (UPU standards), including the US Postal Service and most of the European Postal Services.

FedEx Ground and Express tracking numbers can be between 12 and 14 digits. Prior to January 2013, the land tracking number reached 15 digits and Express number up to 12 digits.
UPS tracking numbers, for domestic packages in the United States, will usually start with "1Z" followed by 6-character sender numbers (numbers and letters), 2-digit service level indicators, and finally 8 digits identify packets (last digit digits into check digits) , with a total of 18 characters.
DHL Express supports ISO 15459-1 standard independent operators for the identification of single packages. The identifier consists of uppercase and numeric characters, and can be up to 35 digits. Companies that are already using this standard do not require any additional identifiers to track their pieces when shipping with DHL Express. In addition, DHL Express uses ten-digit numerical identifiers to track transport orders (i.e. orders to transport items consisting of one or more pieces from A to B). Customers can use both codes for tracking purposes.
