apartment hotel (also hotel accommodation , or extended-stay hotel ) is a serviced apartment complex that uses a hotel-style booking system. This is similar to renting an apartment, but without a fixed contract and residents can "check-out" whenever they want.
The definition of standard zoning in the United States is:
"Apartment hotel means a building designed for or containing apartments and private rooms or rental units, under the supervision of the population, and which maintains an inside lobby where all tenants have to pass through to gain access to apartments, rooms or units."
The apartment hotel complexes usually offer fully equipped apartments. The complex is usually built specially, and is similar to a hotel complex that contains a number of varied apartments. The length of stay at this apartment hotel varies from a few days to months or even years. People who live in an apartment hotel use it as a long term accommodation; therefore, hotels are often equipped with many things needed by the average home.

Apartment hotels were first made on vacation as an accommodation for families who need to "stay" in an apartment rather than "stay" like in a hotel. The apartments will provide a "holiday home" but are generally serviced. Then, these apartments evolved into complete houses, allowing residents to do everything they do at home, such as cleaning, washing, and cooking.

Extended hotel stay
Extended stay hotels (also called serviced apartments) are type inns with features not available in standard hotels. These features are meant to provide more facilities like home. There are currently 27 extended stay chains in North America with at least 7 hotels, representing over 2,000 properties. There is substantial variation among extended stay hotels with respect to the quality and facilities available. Some economic chains attract customers who use hotels as semi-permanent inns.
Hotels with long stays usually have self-service laundry facilities and offer discounts for extended stays, ranging from 5 or 7 days. They also have rooms (or "suites") with kitchens. The kitchen included the usual minimum: a sink, a fridge (usually full size), a microwave oven, and a stove. Some kitchens also have a conventional dishwasher and oven.
The extended stay hotel is aimed at business travelers on extended assignments, families in the middle of relocation, and others in need of temporary housing.
The Residence Residence chain was launched in 1975 in Wichita, Kansas by Jack DeBoer, and was acquired by Marriott Corporation in 1987. Since April 2005, there are more than 450 Residence Inn hotels in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites, both owned by InterContinental Hotels Group, are two examples of hotels designed for business and extended stay travelers.
Another brand of extended-stay hotels is Homewood Suites, which is part of Hilton Worldwide.
Other brands come from the merger of Extended Stay America and Homestead Hotels, which were combined in 2004 to Extended Stay Hotels with more than 670 properties owned and operated in the United States.
Other hotel chains, Choice Hotels International, franchisees for brands like Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Sleep Inn, and Quality Inn, operate MainStay Suites brand. They acquired the Suburban Extended Stay hotel chain in 2005, with more than 150 hotels open and under development.
Low Extended Extended Extended Network Intown Suites was founded in 1988, with 139 locations in 21 states.
Since 1999, the US Budget Inn chain, Motel 6, owned by The Blackstone Group (formerly Accor), operates Studio 6, an extended hotel chain with weekly rates. The chain provides an in-room kitchen area, and allows pets, and operates in 18 US and Canadian states.
