TO Swim - Friends Rockbridge Swimming, Inc., is a non-profit organization formed in 2004 for charity purposes and provides support, educational opportunities, and benefits for youth, middle school and adult pool teams , as well as providing fitness training and water therapy for all residents of Rockbridge County.
After two years of intensive fundraising, in June 2006, FOR Swimming suffered damage to the construction of a 25-yard pool enclosed in an Asati dome dome, located in Lexington, Virginia. The main construction works are managed by Gunner Construction, and it takes about a year to complete.
The Asati dome is highly translucent and requires no daylight exposure with an additional thermaliner to reduce heating costs. Chair lifts are fitted to provide easy access to water easily. In addition, the adjacent pond house is built complete with locker room, shower, office, team room, pump room and storage for swimming pool and swimming equipment. The project is funded by the FOR "" Raise the Roof Campaign "supported by donations from individuals, families, and businesses.
Active community ponds are used by swimmers of all ages and abilities. The nearby Maury River High School offers swimming classes to its students; the swimming pool is home to the Rockbridge Storm swimming team and the Rockbridge County high school swimming team; and, also serving the needs of the local Master Swimmer, Aquacize fan, family swim and lap. In addition, FOR Swimming provides training in swimming, rescue, and kayaking scrolling.
Use of the swimming pool is available with seasonal membership or daily ticket.
