Second Second generation (2009-2015)
In most markets outside of South Korea and North America, the name Hyundai Tucson (also known as "Hyundai Tucson ix" in Korea) was discontinued because it supports Hyundai ix35 . Vehicles sold in the US continue to be called Tucson. The ix35 was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2009. The power output, fuel efficiency, comfort, and safety features have all been enhanced. Known by the name of the LM project, it takes 36 months and 280 billion won (about US $ 225 million) to develop.
Chinese Market
In China, the first-generation Tucson was sold side by side with the ix35, and was replaced by the third generation Tucson directly while the ix35 gave birth to its own successor, ix35 II. Hyundai ix35 II was revealed at 2017 Shanghai Auto Show in China; it is available for the Chinese car market in Q3 2017.
Design
The ix35 style is reportedly based on the Hyundai ix-onic concept. The Ix35 was written by designer Hyundai Cha Il-Hoei in 2007, under the guidance of former BMW designer Thomas Buerkle at Russelsheim Hyundai's design studio in Germany and continues the company's styling language, marketed as a "fluidic sculpture". The compact crossover vehicle has a coupe-like line, premium vehicle feel and comes with features not available on its predecessor.
Machine
Tucson/ix35 is available with several engines: a new 2 liter R 2 diesel engine, one of two variants of Theta-II (2.0L or 2.4L) gasoline engine, 1.7L UII diesel and 1.6L Gamma GDI gasoline. Two then only in Europe. Automatic transmission is the latest six-speed design from Hyundai. Manual transmissions available in Europe are 6-speed for 1.7 and 2.0 diesel and 1.6 Gamma and 5-speed for 2.0 Theta. The 2 liter diesel engine, available outside of North America, meets Euro-5 emission standards and reaches 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers of fuel economy with a maximum power output of 184 horsepower. The 2.0L petrol engine has a fuel economy of 8.5 liters per 100 km with 166 horsepower. In South Korea, diesel engines are offered in front-wheel drive configurations and all-wheel drive, while the 2.0L petrol engine is only available on front-wheel-drive. The North American version is powered by 2.0L which produces 165 horsepower or a 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 176 horsepower mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.4L engine produces almost the same power as the previous generation V6 engine and manages 20% better fuel economy than the previous four-cylinder generation.
Tucson/ix35 sold in the US comes in three trims: GL, GLS, and Limited, with All-Wheel Drive available for GLS and Limited trims. GL comes with a standard manual transmission, but a 6-speed automatic transmission is available and is a standard on GLS and Limited. Features include built-in audio controls, hands-free hands-free Bluetooth connectivity, navigation systems and standard iPod interface system including iPod cable. A variety of advanced safety equipment are standard, including Hillstart Assist Control and Downhill Brake Control. The Proximity Key and Push Button Start systems are available in the Korean market but not in North America. The North American version uses a gauge cluster design different from the Korean version.
The 2014 Tucson model for North America has been upgraded with a GDI direct injected theta-II engine that gets more power and better emissions, tail/head LED lights, more stylish alloy rim designs, and minor improvements to the interior/audio system.
2011
Tucson 2011 is offered in the US, a new GL trim that replaces the 2010 GLS model as the base base of Tucson. GL is powered by a new 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission available to get better fuel economy than a 2.4-liter engine. Trim GLS 2011 includes the 2010 "Popular Tools Package" feature and automatic transmission as standard equipment. The limited model now includes a standard electrochromatic mirror with Homelink and has received Sachs dampers to provide a smoother ride. Electronic stability controls and motor-driven power steering systems have been enhanced to improve performance. All AWD models now accept standard heating seats. This model is the leading vehicle used by survivors in The Walking Dead (TV series).

This increases the system power by 10% while it only emits 109 g/km CO 2 . The plug-in-hybrid concept is also based on the all-new Tucson platform, fitted with a 1.7-liter diesel engine and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The engine produces 113 hp (85 kW) and is accompanied by a 67 hp (50 kW) electric motor and a 10.7 kWh lithium-ion lithium battery, which provides an electric range of more than 50 km (31 mi). The combined system output is a maximum of 180 hp (135 kW) with a torque of 474 N à · m (350 lb-ft), with an estimated CO 2 emissions of less than 48 g/km.
