Move Heart is an Irish Celtic rock band formed in 1981. They follow in the footsteps of Horslips in combining traditional Irish music with rock and roll, and also adding jazz elements to their voices.

Careers
The group was formed in 1981 when DÃÆ'ónal Lunny (bouzouki) and Christy Moore (vocals, guitars and bodhrÃÆ'án), from Planxty, wanted to explore the possibilities of connecting contemporary music with traditional Irish music. They were originally intended to form a trio with guitarist Declan Sinnott, but later expanded the group to include existing Irish musicians, Keith Donald (alto sax), Eoghan O'Neill (bass), Brian Calnan (drums), and Davy Spillane (pipe- uilleann pipes). In their first year together, Moving Hearts appeared to pack spectators during their three-week stay at Baggot Inn on Baggot Street in Dublin.
This laid the foundation for a strong new Irish voice, which was incorporated on the band's first two albums, Move Up and The Dark Ends , with an explicit song of political engagement, often about the situation in Ireland North. The band was organized as a cooperative effort, with all the advantages and costs borne by seven band members and three crew members.
Calnan was replaced for the group's second album by Matt Kelleghan, and, in 1982, Moore went to pursue his solo career and was replaced by Mick Hanly.
Moving Hearts played many prestigious performances including Montreux Jazz Festival, The Bottom Line in New York and Lorient Festival in Brittany, and a line-up with Hanly recorded on the 1983 Live Hearts album. They also played on two songs on Van Morrison's 1983 album A Sense of Wonder.
During one period after Hanly's departure, Flo McSweeney and Anthony Drennan came in with lead vocals and guitars. The following year the group performed as an instrumental group, recording the famous album The Storm . At this point the line-up consists of Spillane and Declan Masterson on a uilleann pipe, Lunny on bouzouki, synthesizer & amp; bodhrÃÆ'án, Donald on sax, Noel Eccles on percussion, Matt Kelleghan on drums, O'Neill on bass and Greg Boland on guitar.
The group stopped the tour in 1984, appearing only at occasional festivals such as Preseli Folk Festival-now the Fishguard Folk Festival-in 1986. In 1990, the band performed at Dublin's Point Theater for a sold-out concert, with McSweeney on vocals.
Moving Hearts was re-established in 2007, announcing concerts in Dublin and at the Hebridean Celtic Festival at Stornoway. The composition of new players is: Lunny, Spillane, O'Neill, Donald, Kellaghan, Eccles, Drennan, Kevin Glackin and Graham Henderson.
