The Trailer Choir was founded in 2004 by Marc Fortney, known as Butter, along with Vinny Hickerson and Crystal Hoyt, each known as Big Vinny and Crystal in the group. The Trailer Choir originally started as a loose musician association, usually including Fortney and Hickerson, who played cover shows at fraternities and clubs to make money and have fun, not as the intended career path. Want to add original music without losing the audience makes the group write and play the famous song party style. They then begin performing the original show for a week, while continuing to play home and club frat on weekends.
At one gig at the end of 2006, a fan named Crystal Hoyt jumped onto the stage and took over Hickerson's microphone, becoming a member of the band until he parted with them in early 2011. Shortly after Hoyt joined them, Toby Keith appeared in one their original show on "The Billy Block Show" at a club called 12 & amp; Porter. When Billy Block told them that Toby Keith was there to talk to them, they initially thought he was joking.
The trio signed a contract with Show Dog Nashville, a label owned by Toby Keith, in June 2007. After Keith asked them to play for his record label staff, they were offered a deal on the spot, and after registering on Tuesday, they were on a tour bus at Thursday as part of Keith's Big Dog Daddy tour. Keith handed it to them to make it work, so they played wherever they could find fans, including the stage, beer hall, and parking lot. Hickerson reported an average of 50 pop worms every day.
The first recording of the Trailer Choir for Show Dog is the song "Off the Hillbilly Hook", which is included in the 2008 movie soundtrack Beer for My Horses, in which Toby Keith starred. Shortly after, "Off the Hillbilly Hook" was released as a single and made into a music video. Trailer Choir also released a digital EP on November 4th.
In 2009, Trailer Choir released their second single, "What Would You Say." This becomes the group's first chart entry, culminating in No. 43 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in May 2009. On June 9, 2009, the group released a physically renewed game titled Off. the Hillbilly Hook , which includes all four songs from the digital EP and two more songs. Upon its release, their third single, "Rockin 'the Beer Gut", became the first Top 40 hit on the country chart in mid-2009. The music video of this song features Wolves of the American Gladiators . In December 2009, "Rockin 'the Beer Gut" re-entered the charts after "Holla Day Version" was released for the Christmas season. "Rollin 'Through the Sunshine" is mapped in No. 50 in early 2010, shortly before the release of the band's debut album, Tailgate . The band also appeared on the song "Do not Mind If I Do not" from Trace Adkins' album Cowboy's Back In Town .
Their song "Last Man Standing" has been used in promotions for NASCAR 2008 "Chase for the Sprint Cup," and high school football events known as "Rivalry Thursday."
