Mazda Demio '2014â€
src: i.ytimg.com

The Mazda Demio is a supermini manufactured and marketed globally by Mazda since 1996, currently in its fourth generation. Demio is marketed prominently as Mazda2 and under previous nameplates including Mazda 121, Mazda Metro and Ford Festiva Mini Wagon .

Demio's third generation won the 2008 World Car of the Year, while the fourth generation was awarded the "Japanese Cars of 2014" 2014-2015.

In Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico, the Demio DJ model is sold by Toyota with a slight change of style as iteration of the Toyota Yaris sedan . In the United States, it was initially marketed under the youth-oriented Scion brand as Scion iA . After August 2016, it was again branded as Toyota Yaris iA due to the termination of the Scion marque. For the 2019 model year, the iA moniker will be removed, and the US model will be sold as a Yaris sedan just like in other markets.

Coming from the introduction of Mazda 121 in 1987, this small B-segment car is based on the Mazda D-platform. Ford also uses the first-generation DA 121 version known as the Ford Festiva. Mazda then released Autozam Revue in 1990 with the next generation D-DB platform. It was redesigned for January 1993, still based on the same DB platform. Kia also builds DA and DB versions, both for itself and for Ford sales as the Ford Aspire in the United States sold by Kia as Pride and Avella. The name "Demio" comes from the Latin meus to indicate ownership, which in many languages romance has become "mio."

When it comes to redesigning the Revue, Mazda comes with a hatchback package, minivan-esque high (Revue already over 1,500 mm (59.1 in) high). Introduced in a time packed with negative press coverage, Demio became a surprise hit for Mazda in Japan, and also marked the current production of B-segment minivans such as Opel Meriva, Fiat Idea and Renault Modus.

A concept model previewing the DW series, called Mazda BU-X was shown in 1995.

In its introduction in 1997, he won the Automobile Researchers Award and Journalist of the Year in Japan.

Demio's new production started in July 1996 (sold as 121 outside Japan and Europe) using the DW platform. Ford sells the Japanese version as the Ford Festiva Mini Wagon. In 1998, the Mazda logo was changed to the current logo. Demio was updated in 1999 with a revised exterior, cabin air filtering, repatriated automatic transmission, and DSC available due to the 2002 redesign.

This will double the Demio EV range, meeting the Japanese requirement that fuel tanks and engines do not provide more range than electric motors. The 1,280 kg (2,820-pound) car will have a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 200 kg (440 liters), 20 kWh, which produces power of 75 kW (102 PS; 101 hp)/150 Â ° LU (15 kg); 110Ã, lb? Fourth generation (DJ; 2014-current)

The new generation Mazda Demio reports appear in 2013 for the 2014 launch, with some manufacturing at Mazda's new plant in Mexico. The Mazda Hazumi Concept model (designed to see future models of Mazda 2) was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show 2014 and in April 2014 a new generation Demio development mule is undergoing testing in Germany, covered with camouflage.

In July 2014, Mazda officially announced photos of the fourth-generation Demio hatchback, and production begins at Mazda's HÃ ¢ factory. Fu. This sedan version debuted at Thailand International Motor Expo in November 2014.

This fourth generation is based on the Mazda CX-5 platform variation, rather than the Ford DE platform used on the Ford Fiesta and features larger lengths, wider front and rear tracks, decreased interior space for rear seat occupants and less front head and leg room.

In October 2014, Demio was awarded "Car of the Year" in 2014-2015 by the Committee of the Car of the Year Japan.

Although the North American variant is produced in Mexico, Mazda USA announces that the Mazda2 hatchback will not be sold in the US market, except in Puerto Rico, due to low sales from previous generation models. The sedan variant, however, will be marketed in the US by Toyota as Scion iA.

For the Canadian market, the DJ Mazda2 series is confirmed at the Montreal International Exhibition 2015, but its launch is delayed until early 2016 to allow Mazda Canada to focus on the redesigned CX-3 and MX-5 launches. On November 16, 2015, Mazda Canada decided not to launch 2 as they found the car unsuitable for the market as well as a shift towards a subcompact crossover. However, as in the US, the sedan variant is marketed as a Toyota Yaris sedan.

Machine and transmission

Mazda 2 uses the six-speed and six-speed SkyActiv-Drive Mazda's SkyActiv-MT and a six-speed manual gearbox and stop-start technology ("i-STOP" switch off the engine when silent car "and brake energy regeneration system (" i-ELOOP "uses braking to charge the capacitors for all car electronics, instead of alternators that charge the battery).

Mazda 2 will initially be offered with a 1.5 liter petrol engine and a 1.5 liter diesel engine - SkyActiv-D , a 1.5-liter diesel engine debuting at the Geneva Motor Show 2014. The gasoline engine will be available with 74 bph, 89 bhp or 113 bhp, while diesel will produce 104 bhp.

In 2014, Mazda de MÃÆ'Ã… © xico Vehicle Operation announces the production of Mazda2 in Salamanca, Guanajuato for various North and South American markets. At the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April of that year, it was announced that the factory would produce a Mazda2 sedan version for Toyota with minor style changes, with vehicles to be sold in the United States as Scion iA and in Canada as a Yaris sedan. In July 2015, it was announced that the car would be sold in Mexico as Yaris R.

Scion iA is the first and only 4-door sedan from the marque and the first and only model that will not be built in Japan. This will be the only variant of the Mazda 2 (DJ) that will be sold in the US.

In the United States, Scion iA sold 7605 units in 2015. Due to the termination of the Scion marque, this model was again branded as Toyota Yaris iA after August 2016 for the 2017 model year.

In Canada, the Yaris has a 106-hp (79-kW), 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission option. Features include customizable heated exterior mirrors, keyless entries, cruise control, power windows and electric door locks.

In Mexico, the Mazda-based Yaris R is sold alongside the cheaper, lower-priced Yaris Sedan, which from the beginning of 2018 was the Asian market version of the Toyota Yaris ATIV, and was previously a variant of the Toyota Vios. Yaris R is sold in three versions. But unlike the Canadian and Scion iA versions, the Yaris R does not feature cruise control or pre-crash warning systems, and it is the only version of rebadged sedan that has a leather steering wheel.

For the 2019 model year, the United States version will be renamed again as a Yaris sedan, and will receive a minor facelift with a new insert grille and trim changes. Unlike previous models, which only offer exterior colors and a choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed automatic transmission as factory options, both the US and Canada 2019 Yaris sedans will be offered in L, LE, and XLE trims with a wider range interior and exterior options.
