Most meatball recipes found in America come from European influences, mainly Italian, Iberian (Portuguese-Spanish), and Nordic (Swedish-Finnish) cuisine.

  • In Brazil, meatballs are called almÃÆ'Â'ndegas , derived from Italian influences. This is usually served with tomato and pasta sauce.
  • In the Canadian province of Quebec, meatballs are a major component of traditional dishes called ragoÃÆ'Â »t de boulettes (boiled meatballs). Meatballs are made with pork, onions, spices such as cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg and boiled in a sauce thickened with roasted flour. This dish is usually served with boiled potatoes or mashed potatoes and pickles. It's so popular that the processed version of the factory is available in cans in most supermarkets across the province.
  • In Mexico, albÃÆ'³ndigas is usually served with light broth and vegetables, or with light chipotle sauce.
  • In the United States, meatballs are generally derived from the influence of European cuisine. Usually, served with spaghetti, pizza, or sub, such as spaghetti and meatballs, pizza meatballs, and meatball sandwiches. In the southern United States, venison or beef is also often mixed with spices and baked into large meatballs that can be served as a main course. Another variation, called "porcupine meatballs" is the basic meatball often with rice in it.
